EYES ON THE SYDNEY SKYLINE

Our mission at KONE is to improve the flow of urban life. To capture the essence of urbanization, we bring you stories of people from 17 cities. Philip Lau believes Sydney is an evolving city. He tells us why.

“My family moved to Sydney when I was young so it’s been over 20 years now. Yet it definitely feels like I’ve lived here my whole life. In the last 5-10 years, Sydney has been taking steps to become an even more modern and global city. We’re seeing more high rise offices and residential buildings not just across the Central Business District (CBD) but also our larger suburbs. The change is apparent when looking at the city’s skyline.

At the moment, our transportation system and the whole infrastructure of the city is going through a massive change. New metro and light rail services as well as motorways connecting the city are being built, and we’ve also (finally!) gotten paperless public transport tickets. There's also a big push to try and make Sydney's CBD more pedestrian friendly - they're currently building a light rail through the middle of the area. I imagine this will lead to fewer cars driving through the city and more room for everyone to get around.

Looking ahead I’m expecting all of this to help connect a greater number of people to the metropolitan area and create a more efficient city with a better standard of living. The growing population has already sparked growth in the number of restaurants and cafes so there are is also definitely more (and better) food options to go around!”
